Here’s a new gaming pickups video from about two weeks ago with a lot of high value goodies!
DmC: Devil May Cry
+ good art direction
+ excellent music
+ platforming is actually really good
+ combat is about as deep and filled with variety as it has ever been in the series
+ boss battles are largely pretty good with the one against Bob Barbas easily being the best
+ voice acting and narrative is better done and more interesting than most of the rest of the series
– some really head-slappingly juvenile dialog and situations at times
As you can see from all the pluses above, I really enjoyed the new reboot of Devil May Cry. Being that it was developed by Ninja Theory I was initially concerned that the combat wouldn’t be particularly good since that is true for all of their previous games, but thankfully the worry was for naught since Capcom clearly helped them get it absolutely right. After I played the demo I was convinced it was spot on and after playing the full game, yes, it indeed is. Ninja Theory did put their own little spin on the combat as so to be fresh, yet familiar and they succeeded. The demo did bring up another concern and that was with the writing and dialog because the demo includes the boss fight against the succubus so I was expecting juvenile writing and dialog throughout the whole game. Fortunately, this is not a concern outside of a few scenes as most of it is well done in the way Ninja Theory is known for. DmC is about as good as a reboot can be and if anyone is reading this that has an irrational hatred for this game and claims to be a true Devil May Cry fan I have this to say: You are missing out on a fantastic game in the series and you only have yourself to blame. Get a grip! DmC isn’t supposed to be 100% like the previous games because it is a reboot. Give it a shot with an open mind and I think you’ll find it is worthy of the series’ legacy.
